Re: Difference between IIT JAM and IIT JEE

If you want to pursue Master of Science course from IIT then you will have to appear for IIT-JAM entrance exam. JAM stands for the Joint Admission test for M.Sc. It was in 2004 when IIT first conducted the IIT-JAM exam.

After passing the IIT-JAM entrance exam you can seek admission in M.Sc, M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree and other post-bachelor degree programmes. To answer you question, there are two different IIT exams. The first one is IIT-JAM which is conducted for Master of Science course.

The other entrance exam is IIT-JEE. This exam is conducted for Engineering admission in Indian Intitute of Technology. However this exam is scrapped from next year and has been be replaced by ISEET entrance exam.

IIT-JAM Eligibility

1. A B.Sc degree from a recognized university.

2. At least 55 percent marks in B.Sc.

3. SC/ST/PD need 50 percent marks in Bachelor of Science course.

IIT JAM and IIT JEE both are different exam .But one thing is same , i.e IIT Admission.

IIT JEE Exam is conduct for Admission in B-Tech and B.Arch course in IIT .IIT JAM Exam is conduct for admission in M.Sc course in various department in IIT .

Both exam are hard ,You can focus on eligibility criteria of both exams.

If you have completed 12th examinations from a recognized board with physics ,chemistry and mathematics subject then you are applicable for IIT-JEE exam. But your 12th marks must be above 60% .Final year of 12th standard candidate can apply here .

Those Candidates have obtained 50% marks in Graduation degree are applicable for IIT JAM Entrance exam. (45% in case of candidates belonging to reserved category).

Bothe the exams are entirely different. IIT JEE is conducted for admission to B.Tech courses in IIT. IIT JAM is conducted for selecting candidates to M.Sc degree in IIT’s. Physics, chemistry and mathematics form the syllabus for IIT JEE. Subjects studied under B.Sc degree forms the syllabus for IIT JAM.
