hi friend,

If you are interested in becoming an IAS officer, you probably know what the IAS is all about and why becoming an IAS officer is a very good career option. However, just incase you do not know, let us give you some quick information on IAS!
If you become an IAS officer, you become part of the Indian Administrative Service. You will be part of the Govt. You can work from "the inside" and change "the system"!!

If you have a dream for India, or if you, like us, believe that India will soon be a "super-power". If you want to be part of the process of making India a great nation, IAS is for you! Being an IAS officer, there is a lot more power and control you have so that you can be part of Emerging India!

Besides that, IAS is a great career option! You get many "perks of the job" when you are an IAS officer. You will have "job security", "discount on Govt. services", "Govt. provided transportation" and many more things... Even though the monthly salary provided by the IAS career is not too high, the "perks" make up for the less salary!

However, getting into the IAS is not that easy! There is a very competitive "one year long" exam! To get into the IAS, you probably will have to try more than once before you succeed. And even if you clear the exam, then you have to get a very good score to qualify for the IAS! So, basically getting into the IAS is not that easy.
To get into the IAS, you will have to give the "UPSC held Civil Services Examination". It is a common exam for getting into the IAS, IPS etc. To succeed in the "Civil Services Examination" you first need to understand how the examination is conducted or the "examination format"!

good luck

Re: Which degree should I take to become an IAS Officer?

IAS can be defined as a post which can be expanded as Indian Administrative Service. An IAS officer is responsible for the administration of a district or on some other administrative side. To become an IAS officer you need to clear an examination conducted by Union Public Service commission of India. To appear in that examination you need to have a graduation of any discipline from a recognized university. Your age must be above 21years and below 30years. Thus you would have understood that there is no correct discipline to choose in your graduation. You can do any course as you wish. I would suggest you to do any course which would be very easy for you to clear so that you can also prepare for UPSC exam at the same time.

Re: Which degree should I take to become an IAS Officer?

If your stream is arts, then my suggestion is to do a bachelors in arts.

Because to become an IAS you should have completed your graduation first in any stream from any recognized university....that is the only educational criteria....then take a look at the following things.

1. Your age should be between 21 years and 30 years....the age is calculated on the basis of 1st of August of the year applying for it.
[33 years for SC/ST]

2. Should be a citizen of India.

After completing your graduation only you can apply for IAS.

If you dont get selected in the first try and don't want to waste a year then you can also do M.A. It will definitely help you.

But keep your focus on IAS only..and work very hard.

Do daily exercizes to remain fit and to match the physical eligibility criteria.

Re: Which degree should I take to become an IAS Officer?

Dear pal,
it is nice to see people like you who are interested in serving the people. The nature of work is challenging and good command over others is necessary.
For certain jobs specialisation in a particular discipline is required but for Indian administrative service nothing live that is necessary. You can do any bachelor degree .
So the degree matters . Basically the bachelor degree course are of three years duration except engineering and architecture. So if you do three years course you can save a year of study. You can do degree in your field of interest itself . So that you can secure good marks. You can choose you discipline as one of the main exam papers if available and you need to choose other four optional papers as per your wish. All the best

Hello,

As per the IAS is concern you can do any degree for doing that but it will be very helpful to you if you do BA or you do any BCom Honours course from reputed university. It will help you for the questions in the Exam.
If you do BA history then you can crack history part of the exam which is really tough
