Re: Do I have to write any exams to get placed in government organizations after doing Civil Engineering? Yes, most of the government organizations conduct written test for recruitment of civil engineers for various posts. These written test generally comprises of 2 sections: aptitude test general engineering test You should start preparing for written test from 3rd year itself. In this way you will get ample time for your preparation. Also pay attention to GD & interview preparation. Many students get rejected at this stage. |

For selection to any of the government jobs in technical fields after doing civil engineering you have to appear for the exam conducted by the UPSC. As you are a civil engineer, the best for you is to appear for the IES exam or the Indian Engineering Service Exam. After successfully clearing the IES exam in category I or civil Engineering, you are eligible for the following jobs in the Govt.Of India: Grade A Services/Posts • Indian Railway Service of Engineers • Indian Railway Stores Service (Civil Engineering Posts) • Central Engineering Service • Military Engineer Services (IDSE-Building and Roads Cadre) • Military Engineer Service (Surveyor of Works Cadre) • Survey of India Service, Group 'A' (Civil Engineering Posts) • Central Water Engineering Service (Civil Engineering Posts) • Assistant Executive Engineer (Civil) in P & T Building Works (Group `A') Service • Central Engineering Service (Roads), Group `A'; • Assistant Executive Engineer (Civil) in Border Roads Engineering Service Group `A' • Indian Ordnance Factories Service (Engineering Branch) Eligibility: 1. Bachelor's degree holders in Engineering/Technology (4 years after 10+2). Candidates in final year or pre final year can also give IES exam. 2. Candidates with MSc. degree or equivalent in Wireless Communications, Electronics, Radio Physics or Radio Engineering will be eligible for certain posts only 3. Candidates with qualifications obtained through exams conducted by professional societies recognized by UPSC/AICTE as equivalent to BE/B.Tech are also eligible to sit for the IES exam. For example, AMICE conducted by Institute of Civil Engineers, India is one such examination. 4. A candidate should be more than 21 years and less than 30 years of age as on 1st August, 2010. There are relaxations in age limit for various reserved categories 5. A candidate should be medically and physically fit according to the specified requirements. The Engineering Service exam for the year 2011 has already been conducted, so you can try next try provided you fulfill the eligibility conditions. I have attached the books you refer to for IES preparation. |
