Department of Pre-University Education Karnataka (PUE Board) Biology Papers cover the basic and fundamental concepts of biology, with topics being included from zoology, human physiology, molecular biology and botany. Important course topics include protein synthesis in cells, cell structure with focus on the role and importance of the various cellular organisms, Richmond-Lang effect, gene therapy, translation and transcription, the role of various components of an egg cell like duramen and alburnum, the function and component elements of plant hormones like gibberellins, plant growth and growth curve. The topics covered under human physiology include human digestion, genetic theories like Mendel’s law of segregation, structural units and functions of the human kidney, hormonal products of the pituitary glands and so on. The human reproductive system is also an important course component, and diagram based questions can be expected from this topic. The practical syllabus is also a major chunk of the course and a separate question is asked from this section, which includes topics like Biuret Test and details of the unfertilized egg of a frog.
