Anyone with post graduate degree is eligibile to appear in the National Eligibility Test (NET) exam. You can appear in the NET with the intention to become lecturer of if you wish to pursue further studies like PhD. Once you are in the final year of M.Sc course you are eligible to appear in NET examination.

Apart from NET which is for lecturer job in central government colleges, you can also appear in the SET exam of your respective state. SET exam is similar to the NET with almost same eligibility and it is for the candidates who wish to get lecturer job in the state government colleges.

However apart from the post graduate course, there are few other requirements that you are required to meet in order to appear in the National Eligibility Test. These requirements are mentioned below:

1. The minimum educational requirement to appear in National Eligibility Test is masters degree in any stream from a recognised college.

2. While applying for the NET exam, make sure to choose the same subject in which you completed the post graduate course.

3. You will have to secure 55 percent marks in the masters course to be eligible for NET.

4. Candidates belonging to reserve categories like SC/ST/OBC/PH etc are eligible for 5 percent relaxation in percentage criteria as per the rule of government of India.

5. Those who are in final year of masters course may also appear in NET.

6. However such candidates would require to submit the degree with required score within 2 years of appearing in the NET.

7. Age Limit for Junior Research Fellowship is 28 years.

8. Those who are applying for lecturer job do not need to worry about any upper age limit.

The requirements mentioned above are also same for the SET exam. The only noticable difference between 2 exams is that candidates who pass the NET exam can not get job in a state government college while candidates who pass SET are not eligible for the central government college job. Therefore choose the exam wisely.
