Re: How to become a commercial pilot after passing 12th(PCM) Becoming commerical pilot may not sound as a good idea when airlines like Kingfisher and Air India are making news for all the wrong reasons but the truth is that it is a very good field. But at the same time very expensive. The course to become commercial pilot in India can easily cost you more than Rs 15 Lakh. This is not a amount which everyone can afford. Therefore before you decide to apply for it, make sure that you have the sufficient funds to complete the course. Like I mentioned ealier that what is happening in airline sector should not trouble you much especially since govt has announced FDI in Aviation which will pump life in the cash scrapped airlines of India. Despite all the hurdles that aviation sector faces, it continues to grow with the speed of 20 percent per year. Below are all the details that you need to know to become commerical pilot. Please read them carefully. Eligibility 1. A minimum of 10+2 with PCM as the subjects. 2. At least 50 percent marks in 12th standard. 3. The age limit to obtain commercial pilot licence is 18 to 30 years. Physical Requirements >>Height<< The minimum height to become commercial pilot is 5 feet. >>Eyesight<< 6/6 vision is required to become commercial pilot. Candidates are allowed to wear eyeglasses but no lasik operation. You are eligible for the course if your distance vision is correctable to 20/20 while near vision to 20/40 with eyeglasses. >>Other Requirements<< 1. You should not be suffering from any disease that can affect your performance. 2. You should be able to cope with pressure situation without emotional breakdown. 3. You should not have fears of height. Procedure Step 1 - Student’s Pilot Licence The first thing you need to do is obtain the Student's Pilot Licence. You can apply for it as soon as you have completed 10th standard. The procedure include appearing for a basic Maths test in which the questions would be related to various aspects of the aircraft. If you managed to score 75 out of 100 marks, you will get the licence. Step 2 - Private Pilot Licence Your flying training would start now. You must complete 12th before applying for this licence. Then you will be given flying experience with instructor and solo. A total of 60 hours of flying experience would require. Apart from it you will have to appear for written test by the aviation watchdog DGCA. Step 3 - Commercial Pilot Licence This would be the last stage for your dream to fly a commercial plane. You would need at least 250 hours of flying experience. Additionally you will go through medical test by the DGCA and written exams for subjects like Air Regulations, Aviation Meteorology, Air Navigation. Once you have obtained the Commecial Pilot Licence, you can apply for trainee co-pilot job at airlines in India. After few months you will become co-pilot for the airline. |
