It is not required to do Bachelor of Education to be eligible for SET Exam. SET stands for State Eligibility Test. This exam is conducted for lectureship and PhD. The requirement for B.Ed is in case you want to become school teacher. It is not related to college lectureship.

Therefore if you have completed post graduation then surely you may apply for the SET entrance exam. However only if you meet all the criteria related to this exam. It is also important to understand that you can only apply for lectureship in the state where you cleared the SET Exam.

What this means is that after clearing Gujarat SET, you can only apply for lectureship in Gujarat. It does not make you eligible to apply in Maharashtra or any other state.

Eligibility

1. You should be of Indian origin.

Education Criteria

1. Post graduation degree in any discipline from a recognized university.

2. At least 55 percent marks in PG.

3. Minimum of 50 percent marks in case of SC/ST students.

4. Final year students are also eligible to apply.

5. Your NET subject should be related to Post graduation course.

Age Criteria

1. For JRF, age limit is 28 years.

2. The age limit is relaxed by 3 years for OBC.

3. Age limit for SC/ST is relaxed by 5 years.

4. There is no upper age limit for College Lectureship.

SET refers to State Eligibility Test or State Lectureship Eligibility Test conducted under the regulation of University Grant Commission for assessing candidates eligibility to become lecturer/Assistant Professor in Colleges/University in respective states. It is quite the same as the National Eligibility Test and the only difference between the two is that candidate who qualifies National Eligibility Test may apply for the position of Lecturer/Assistant Professor in Colleges and Universities situated anywhere in India whereas those who qualifies State Lectureship Eligibility Test may only apply for the similar position in universities and Colleges of the respective state.

Now, as per your query, possessing bachelors degree or equivalent qualification in Education is not required to be considered eligible for the State Lectureship Eligibility Test. If you have completed your masters degree program and have scored atleast 55% marks in the examination, you will be considered eligible to take the test. For candidates belonging to reserved category, the required percentage of marks to be considered eligible is 50%.
