1)4 Attempts Is Applicable For Candidates Belonging To General Category.

2)7 Attempts Is Applicable For OBC And PH Candidates.

And No Limit For SC/ST Candidates.

Eligiblity Criteria -

And To Appear In This Examination, Your Age Should Between 21-30 Years. Relaxation Of Upper Age Limit Is Applicable Only For SC, ST And For OBC Candidates.

And You Must Have A Bachelor Degree Of A Recognised University Or Equivalent.

Number of attempts for Preliminary exam for UPCS

The different category candidates will get different number of
attempts in the Preliminary exam of UPSC.

The number of attempts in preliminary examination of UPSC given to the candidates is given below

For General Category candidates 4 attempts.
For OBC category candidates 7 attempts.
For SC/ST category candidates there is no limit.

The eligibiltiy criteria required is given below

Education Qualification
A candidate should be graduate from a recognized university.
Candidate appeared in the final year examination are also eligible
to apply for the civil service preliminary examination.

Age Limit
Candidate age should be between 21 to 20 years.

for the preliminary exam of the UPSC you have the following attempts::

for the general 4 attempts
for the OBC 7 attempts
for the SC/ST no limit
the age has to be 21years to 30 years and there is upper age relaxation for the OBC and the SC/ST candidates

Age limits :

21 - 30 yrs for general candidates.

21 - 33 yrs for OBC candidates.

21 - 35 yrs for SC/ST candidates.

Number of Attempts :

4 attempts for general candidates.

7 attempts for OBC candidates.

There is no restriction on the number of attempts in the case of SC/ST

candidates.

04 attempts for open Candidates
07 for OBCs Candidates
No limit for SCs/STs Candidates

(If a person appears in the Preliminary Examination or even one paper is counted as an attempt)

Number of attempts for UPSC preliminary exam:

4 attempts for General category
7 attempts for OBC and Physical handicap
Unlimited attempts for SC/ST

Eligibility criteria for UPSC exam:

Minimum bachelor degree in any stream
Age should be between 21 to 30 years for General category,21 to 33 years for OBC category,21 to till the end for SC/ST category
Indian citizenship card holder

Civil Service Exam Query !

Educational Qualification:-
You Must hold a degree of any Discipline from any Recognized University.

Age Limits:-
Must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years on 1st August, 20XX(Year of Examination),

For Example he must have been born not earlier than 2nd August, 1980 and not later than 1st August, 1989.(This is For Civil Service Exam 2011 & For Next year Exam it will be different )

Attempts:-

For General Category :- only 4 times.
For OBC:- Only 7 times.
For SC/ST:- Any Time under the Above age Limits.

I suppose you are talking about the civil service preliminary exams in this case.

Maximum Permissible Attempts according to UPSC guidelines:

*General:4
*OBC:7
*SC/ST:No Limit
