There will be two stages of selection for IAS, prelims and mains. In prelims there will be questions on general studies and quantitative aptitude. Seven papers are there for mains exam. Preparation for the exam can be made using text books like Public Administration - Sadan and Sharma, Local Government - S.R. Maheswari, Economic and Commercial Geography of India by Sharma & Cotinho, Administration - Mohit Bhattacharya, and so on. Practicing previous year question paper will be very useful to clear the exam.
