Re: Is a Physics Graduate student eligible for Merchant Navy Course?

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR MERCHANT NAVY :

1. You have to pass 10+2, from a recognized board or school, with Maths and Physics as compulsory subject.

2. Your age has to be between, 16.5 to 19 years to sit for NDA, via which it recruits cadets.

3. If you apply after your graduation, to the merchant navy, then it a must, that you should score 50% minimum in your graduation.

4. Your physical fitness is also a must.

Since you are a physics graduate, you can apply for this.

All the best.

Dear Friend

The courses and their details are as follows -
B.E Marine Engineering:
Eligibility: 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English
Admission to Merchant Navy Courses in India is conducted through IIT- JEE. The two areas where training is given to students enrolling in these courses are Marine Engineering and Navigation Science. One common eligibility criteria for merchant navy officers in both the fields is medical fitness.

Re: Is a Physics Graduate student eligible for Merchant Navy Course?

There two options available by which a candidate interested can join Merchant Navy. First the candidate should have completed his 12th standard from a recognised institute. Also the candidate should have pursued both Physics and Maths in 12th. Another way would be to join after B.Tech in Marine Engineering. Since you are from the Physics background you can still apply. An year of pre-sea training will be required.
