First of all you need to know about the eligibility criteria for the IPS(IAS) exam. This will clear most of your doubts.

1) Graduate.
2) Minimum age should be at least 21 years.

Now since you are in 11th standard so you have to first clear your intermediate and then have to do graduation in any of the discipline, then only you will be eligible to apply for the examination.

So you have a sufficient amount of time for your preparation.
For now, my advise would be that, you stay up to date with the social events and make an habit of reading newspapers and news. Discuss different sort of facts with your friends, this will help you to retain what you have read.

So, first focus on your intermediate and along with this stay connected to the world. This will help you when you later when you start your preparation after graduation for the exam.

One more thing, IPS do not take separate exam. Based on your rank in the IAS exam IPS officers are selected.

There is no particular subjects required in class 11th to be an I.P.S .The minimum qualification for eligible to give application for CSAT conducted by UPSC is :--

Graduation completed or even final year candidates with any stream can apply .The age of the candidates must be 21-30 years for general candidates and there is also relaxation in age of 3 and 5 years for the OBC and SC/ST candidates respectively .

Yes , it is your right decision to go with the subject from beginning only . But I will say to go with one in which you have more interest as question are not going to be easy in the examination .

The selection stream for your senior secondary education and other higher education is completely dependent on your interest in that stream .the simple theory about this reason is that when you have interest in a certain stream that stream appears simple for you as you are focused toward that stream .

For becoming an IPS officer there is no compulsion of a particular stream and the questions are asked from that stream which you have opted for your graduation .So you should just gofor that stream of your interest

Graduation is the minimum educational qualification required for the profile of IPS Officer. Subject selected for studies, either at 10th, 12th, or graduation is not a matter of concern. You can select any of your interested subjects in 11th class. Selection of candidates to IPS is done on the basis of civil services examination. Applicant’s age must be between 21 and 30 years. Applications for civil services examination can be submitted through the website of UPSC.
