Re: Which subject to take after 10th to become an IAS or IPS Officer?

I am very pleased with your interest in Civil services and even from beginning of 11th only . One thing I want to suggest you that the eligibility criteria for the civil services examination of IAS/IPS are :-
Graduation completed students in any discipline or stream from a recognised university are eligible .
The candidates age must be 21-30 years and there is relaxation for other category students .
There are limitations on number of attempts also . For general it is :-3
OBC :-7 .
SC/ST:- No limitations .

The examination is conducted in three stages:-
Preliminary.
Mains .
Interview .

It is mandatory to candidates to qualify in all the stages .

So I will suggest you study what you have interest . As there is no restrictions on optional subjects for Mains examination .

But from now only I will suggest you to go with newspaper and Current Affairs regularly .
This will benefit you alot .

hello friend
if you want to build up your career as an IPS or IAS officer, then choose that subject in which you are buff.
Choose that subject which you have the good knowlege beacause in the main exam exam of ivil services exam you have to choose one subject for the entrance in which you are good.
And if you are in struggle, then according to me, hoose the history subject beacuse the most of the IPS officers passed this subject.
I hope the information help you.
Good luck

There is no such specification given by UPSC that you need to opt any stream in 10+2 in order to become Indian Administrative Officer or Indian Police Services officer.

You can take any stream in 10+2. In order to appear for the Civil Services examinations, you need a bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university. Final year candidate can also apply for the exam.

So, yes degree is needed to appear for Civil Services examination.

The age limit is 21-30 years. Upper age relaxation applicable to OBC and SC/ST candidates.

Re: Which subject to take after 10th to become an IAS or IPS Officer?

First of all you need to know about the eligibility criteria for the IPS(IAS) exam. This will clear most of your doubts.

1) Graduate.
2) Minimum age should be at least 21 years.

Now since you are in 11th standard so you have to first clear your intermediate and then have to do graduation in any of the discipline, then only you will be eligible to apply for the examination.

So you have a sufficient amount of time for your preparation.
For now, my advise would be that, you stay up to date with the social events and make an habit of reading newspapers and news. Discuss different sort of facts with your friends, this will help you to retain what you have read.

So, first focus on your intermediate and along with this stay connected to the world. This will help you when you later when you start your preparation after graduation for the exam.

Regarding the subjects, if you don't want to take up engineering or medical and your complete focus is on the IAS exam, try to take humanities.

One more thing, IPS do not take separate exam. Based on your rank in the IAS exam IPS officers are selected.

Re: Which subject to take after 10th to become an IAS or IPS Officer?

IAS stands for Indian Administrative Services and IPS for Indian Police Services. Both of the services come under Civil Services of Indian Government.

Minimum of bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university is required to apply for the exam.

Final year candidates can also apply for the exam.

The age limit is 21-30 years for general candidates and three years age relaxation to OBC and five years to SC/ST candidates.

It has three stages: Preliminary exam, Mains examination and Personal Interview.

There are four attempts for General candidates, seven for OBC candidates and no limit for the SC/ST candidates.

There is no compulsory subjects to take in either 10+2 or bachelor's degree to become IAS or IPS officer.

You can choose the stream as per your interest and subjects which you like reading without any suggestions of others. You will perform well in subjects if you like reading it.

You can go for science or commerce or arts anyone but it should be your own choice.

Yes, as mentioned above degree is needed to apply for the Civil Services examination.
