Re: Genetic engineering after 12th standard with Biology? genetics is one of the most sought-after discipline of science. many students are competing to get the concerned seats for undergraduate courses in genetics as it broadens their career avenues. these programs include genetic engineering and B.Sc in genetics as the recommended undergraduate courses. one can be eligible for genetic engineering only with +2 or equivalent with science and maths, but for Bachelors of Science in genetics one need not have maths in +2, but physics, chemistry and biology are sufficient to make you eligible for the course. there are various colleges and universities offering B.Sc in genetics. some of them are: university of Pune, Bangalore University, West Bengal University of Technology, Osmania University,Hyderabad kakatiya university, Warangal Calicut University, Rajiv Gandhi Uiversity of Health Sciences, Karnataka, Kurukshetra University, Haryana Madurai Kamraj University, Tamil Nadu |

Re: Genetic engineering after 12th standard with Biology? To become a genetic engineer you must have a- 1. Graduate/ postgraduate degree in genetics or related fields such as biotechnology, molecular biology, microbiology or biochemistry OR a doctorate (PhD) from a recognised university. 2. You must have an experience on 2-3 years of his own research under the guidance of a professor/lecturer. The basic eligibility criteria for a graduate degree (BE / B.Tech) is 10+2 or equivalent examination, with Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics as well as genetics as part of the biology OR a bachelors degree in science or molecular biology. Selection to the graduate courses ( BE / B.Tech ) is based on merit i.e the marks secured in the final exams of 10+2 and through entrance exams. Entrance to the IIT's is through JEE (Joint Entrance Exam) and for other institutions through their own separate entrance exams and other state level and national level exams. Apart from the IIT's, some other famous institutes also recognize JEE scores for selection. Personalty traits- To be a successful genetic engineer, one must have sharp analytical mind, an aptitude for research, high levels of concentration, eye for details, lively imagination, abundant physical stamina to put in long hours of work, ability to work as a team, moreover he should have a sound moral sense. |

Re: Genetic engineering after 12th standard with Biology? If you are looking for a career in genetic engineering can start the BTech course after 12th with Biology. Admission to B.Tech in Genetic Engineering/Biotechnology/ Biochemical Engineering is made generally through entrance tests. You can also pursue three-year B.Sc degree course in Genetics / Biological Science / Life Science / Biotechnology subjects and then go for post graduation (MSc) in genetics. If you desire for further study and research can pursue M.Tech and PhD in genetic engineering offered by few institutes in India including the IITs. Wish you all the best!!! Regards, Deepesh |
