Yes, you can get admission in any stream of your choice after doing diploma in automobile engineering. The admission of diploma holders in degree is done the basis of performance in the LEET exam.

LEET stands for the Lateral Entry Entrance Test. To be eligible for this exam, a candidate must have at least 60% marks in diploma. On the basis of rank secured in the LEET exam, you can get admission in stream and college of your choice. Mechanical engineering is one of the core stream of engineering with immense career opportunities.

If you want to do B.Tech in mechanical engineering from NITs, IIITs, you can apply for the Joint Entrance Examination conducted by the CBSE.

Yes, you can change your stream form Automobile to the Mechanical engineering in the B.tech and for this first you have to first qualify the Lateral entry entrance exam that is conducted specially for the diploma engineering candidates and after qualifying this exam candidates get the direct in the second year of the Graduation.

>> And as you are asking for the chances so for this in actual depends on your rank that you will get in the written exam if you will get the good rank your admission will surely be in a government organization and will also be get placed in a good company after the bachelor in technology.

So all depends on your intention for the admission as your intention will strong you will be so close to the admission a strong intention towards any success is the half winning.

Re: Chances of getting lateral entry into B.Tech Mechanical engineering?

Yes dear there is a chance to do B.Tech with Mechanical Engineering right after completion of " Diploma with Automobile Engineering ". But you need to write any of the Entrance Exam which might be National Level Entrance Exam like Polycet or State level Exam like ECET etc.,

So based on the entrance exam you will get an admission in good colleges.

Thus you will get a admission in B.Tech with Mechanical Engineering .
