It is not much important to know hindi. For IAS exam you must have completed graduation in any field.

You can also apply for the exam while studying in final year of exam.

Your age must be within 21 years to 32 years.

There is relaxation in age upto 3 years for OBC and 5 years for SC/ST candidates.

The exam is conducted in three sections-
>> CSAT
>> Mains
>> Interview

Re: Is Hindi necessary for IAS entrance exam?

It is not important for the candidate to have good understanding of Hindi. In the Main Exam of the Indian Administrative Service, there are two papers on the language to check the communication skills of the candidate.

One paper is on English, therefore you should be good in English. While for the second paper, candidate is given choice to select one of the Indian languages. It includes Hindi, Gujarati, Tamil etc. You should be fluent in any of these langauges.

It is important that since you are not good in Hindi, that your English should be good. The Indian Administrative Service Exam is conducted in only two languages, Hindi and English. Therefore the candidate should be fluent in one of the languages.

Besides there is no such language requirement. Since you are not from the Hindi speaking belt of India, it would not be an issue. Just select your language for the Indian language paper, if it is mentioned in it. Otherwise you will need to have good understanding of one Indian language to pass the paper.

IAS Eligibility

1. Only citizens of India can apply for IAS.

2. The qualification requirement is bachelor degree in any discipline.

3. There is no percentage criteria.

4. The age limit is 21 to 30 years.

There is relaxation in upper age limit:

OBC - three years

SC/ST - five years

Exam Pattern

1. Preliminary Exam

2. Main Exam

3. Interview
