NIT stands for National Institute of Technology and it is considered as the top college in India for engineering courses .It is managed and controlled by Central government .

For getting admission in the NIT you have to clear at least the JEE Mains which is also the first stage of JEE together with high percentage of marks in your board examination as the merit list is prepared on the basis of overall performance in both the above examinations .

As you have scored only 64 marks in your JEE Mains so you are not eligible for admission in the NIT if you belong General or OBC category as the minimum qualification marks for these category for JEE Mains are 105 marks and 70 marks respectively for the year 2015 .But there is the hope for you if you belong to SC or ST category as for these categories the cutoff marks in 48 marks and 44 marks respectively .

Also if you are interested to read in NIT or IIT and do not get the admission in the present session then you can have a break of one year from your academics for preparing for JEE .But go for this option only if you are confident about yourself otherwise it will be not good for your placement .

Also you can look for the colleges with good placements taking admission on the board performance as you have done very well in your boards in order to avoid the loss of one year of your academics .
