Re: What can I choose between IMA and OTA? Difference between IMA and OTA?

OTA(Officer training Academy) and IMA(Indian military academy)

To join for this you have to apply for CDS(combined defence services) exam which is conducted by UPSC(Union Public Service commission)

* Candidates should be the citizen of India.
* Candidates should be the graduate form a recognized university
* Candidates for OTA should have the age limit within 19-24 years
* Candidates for OTA can be either married or unmarried.
* candidates for IMA should have the age limit within 19-23 years
* candidates for IMA should be unmarried.
* Candidates should be physically fit
* OTA is a short service term.
* IMA is a permanent service.

Both are training centers for Army. If you have the above eligibility then you can apply for OTA and IMA otherwise you cannot appear for this.

Best wishes

Hello, yes friend you are very well eligible. The requirement is Graduation from a recognized university. In fact if you are BE or BTech you can also apply for TGC.
And the maximum age is 25.

Best of luck. feel free to ask if doubts remain.

For IMA only Unmarried Males are eligible. But for OTA (Officers Training Academy) Both married and unmarried males candidates are eligible.

To apply for OTA And IMA, You need a bachelor degree from a recognised University or colleges. IMA candidates get permanent commission whereas OTA candidates get Short service Commission for 10 years.

IMA Candidates have to appear for written exam for Maths, English and General Studies, whereas for OTA candidates only English and General Studies are applicable.

IMA candidates undergo 1½ year and OTA Candidates undergo 11 months of training. So, this is the main difference between IMA and OTA.

So, please choose according to your interest, Both the post are good.

And if you want to get complete information regarding CDS Examination, then please visit the UPSC Official website OR Read the given notification -

Re: What can I choose between IMA and OTA? Difference between IMA and OTA?

Hello friend,
Indian Military Academy-IMA imparts training to the officers qualified for permanent commission in Indian Army whereas, Officers Training Academy imparts training to the officers selected/opted for short service commission.
The period of service in the short commission is 10 years.
To join the Indian Military Academy as well as Officers Training Academy, you may write Combined Defense Service Exam conducted by UPSC.
Apart from being a graduate, you must be within the age limit of 19-24 years for IMA and 19-25 years for OTA.
For more information, you may refer to the official website of Indian Army and to know more about the Combined Defense Service Exam, visit the official website of Union Public Service Commission.

Re: What can I choose between IMA and OTA? Difference between IMA and OTA?

hi,
Candidates appearing for IMA have to appear for written exam for Maths, English and General Studies, whereas for OTA only English and General Studies are applicable. IMA candidates undergo 1½ year and OTA Candidates undergo 11 months of training: at the end of which in both cases they are given the rank of Lt in Army. IMA candidates get permanent commission whereas OTA candidates get Short service Commission (SSC) for 10 years. At end of 10 years of service SSC officers can exercise following options :-

1. Leave service
2. Ask for extension of 4 more years.
3. Ask for Permanent Commission (PC) Candidates seeking extension or PC are screaned by a Board of officers and granted extension / PC if found suitable.
