Hi Friend,

All Indian Citizens of age above 21 and with graduation in hand are eligible to appear UPSC exam.

To become an IAS, first thing you need to do is to apply when UPSC releases its notification. UPSC conducts the exam every year. It has three phases.
1.Prelims (Objective type):
It has two papers. One is CSAT, which includes aptitude,reading comprehension, logical reasoning,verbal ability and decision making, and the other paper is on General Studies.
You need to clear prelims in order to write Mains examination which is the second phase.

2.Mains Examination::
Once you clear the prelims, this is evident that you write Mains. This is the most crucial phase of the entire exam.As part of mains, first, you need to select two optional subjects of your interest out of the listed subjects by UPSC. You must be very thorough with these two optional subjects. You need to write one essay paper too,so you must have a very good writing skills.

And after that, you have English literature paper, Indian language paper (Telugu,Tamil,Kannada,Malayalam,Urdu,Hindi,Pali etc.) and General studies (GS) paper.

So overall you write 9 papers in the duration of 21 days. This phase contributes the maximum marks for your success.

3.Personal Interview::

Those who clear mains examination are called for personal interview. This will be in Delhi, UPSC bhavan.You will be asked so many questions about your background, current affairs, why do you want to be an IPS, your opinion about our country, India relations with other countries and so on.

Remember, You just need to clear prelims to appear for mains. Prelims marks are not going to be added to your overall marks. But clearing the prelims is must.

May God help You

THANK YOU.
You have probably heard of the replacement of Prelims by CSAT, but instead I am once again notifing you that - On 18th oct. 2010 Government announced the outline of the new Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) and changes in the General Studies paper that would requires aspirants to be as well versed in environmental studies — say climate change — as social development.

And all the Aspirants are happy with this decision, but little worried as it will be first of its knid for them.

However, its feel sad to hear that you missed the chance for apprearing last time. But being a part of this forum you will not be able to miss it this time. Just register yourself as you are still 'unregistered guest' it will take less then 30 secs.

Valueable Advice: Civil Service notification are release generally in 'last week of december or first week of january' last time it wass announced on 02.01.10.
Complete and detailed 5-8 pages notification are released in Employment NEws. So, as I always advice to all youths to conssitantly read that paper, advicing you also. A one stop solution for any government job/entrance/notification etc.

Re: IAS exam application procedure and dates?

Hi friend, the last date for the IAS for this year has already over on 2nd February 2010. Now you need to wait till next year. You can get the application form along with acknowledgement and envelope in any head post office, this will be mentioned in the notification of UPSC. You are not allowed to purchase form from any agency. Photocopy, printed copy or reproduction copies are not allowed. The eligible candidates can apply for this once the commission’s notice is announced in news paper or employment news.

The existing prelims consist of two papers: the first is on general studies and common to all candidates can then choose the second paper from a list of 23 Optional subjects.

But The proposed general studies paper might be tweaked but it is the second paper that will undergo a major change.
A top government official said UPSC chairman Professor D.P. Agrawal has constituted a high-powered committee - under former University Grants Commission vice-chairman Professor S.K. Khanna - to work out the details of the two papers. “The committee had given time till April, 2010-end. Then the UPSC will discuss its recommendations with the
government and finalise the content and syllabus of the paper,” as the official said.

So, we can considered that Comittee has submitted its Report, but UPSC is yet to finalise the Syllabus and the things associated with the new CSAT or Civil Service Amptitude Test.

Brief Account of IAS

Eligibility Criteria:- Candidate must hold a Graduation Pass certificate in any field, weather it is Engineering, medical, BA,Bsc,B.com etc... it does'nt matter, niether %age in Graduation matters. Yes but kep in mind that good percentile will always help you in being superior from other competetors.

Age Limit: For General Candidates- 21-30 years, For OBC- 21-30 + 3 years relaxation, For SC/ST 21-30 years + 5 years relaxation, For Deaf, Blind and orthopaedically handicapped 21-30 years + Relaxation of 10 years, For ECO,SSCO 21-30 years + 5 years relaxation ETC........

And for this reason Authority is in mode of introducing an APTITUDE test, which will easy ans convinient to tackle as compared to existing Preliminaries. It was scheduled to be implemented from 2011, decision is almost 100%, but I am also unaware of the things in APTITUDE test because proper guidelines are still awaited, so can not give more details in this respect.
