Yes, because that entry is for selecting pilots for the IAF. At times a candidate is recommended in the SSB but fails to qualify for PABT now replaced by computerized pilot selection system test also known as CPSS test. In such cases board gives an option to the candidate if he is willing to join ground duties if candidate is ok he may be given non flying roll.

While applying online for the CDS exam, one can opt for the ASA as their first preference to eligible for the flying branch.
After clearing the CDS exam and SSB, there is a separate pilot Aptitude battery Test exam, which is only for the flying branch of IAF.

This comprises of two parts:-
1. Computer based test
2. Written test

You can get into IAF (i.e. Indian Air Force) through following:
  • NDA (after passing 10+2 with PCM)
  • AFCAT (after completing graduation)
  • CDS (after completing graduation)
  • NCC Special Entry
Through CDS exam, if you are planning to join Flying branch of CDS, then you must possess following things:
  • Age should be between 20 to 25 years.
  • Candidate should have studied Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level or Bachelor of Engineering.
  • After clearing CDS written exam, candidate will have to clear SSB Interview.
  • Minimum height required is 162.5 cms for male in Air Force.

Am I eligible for flying branch in IAF by taking the CDS exam?

I have scored 57% in Physics and Mathematics in 12th but my B.Tech score is well above 60%. Can I be a Flying Officer in the Indian Air Force if I take attempt CDS? I know I am not eligible for flying through AFCAT.
