Re: Is marathi language compulsory for MPSC exam?

Yes, since MPSC short for Maharashtra public service commission basically for employees recruited for Maharashtra state on various governmental posts and Marathi is mother tongue of Maharastrian peoples that's why Marathi is compulsory in MPSC exam. There is no need to select subject, as optional subjects are removed.

In paper 2 , there are two parts:
1]comprehensions
2]Marathi and English language comprehensions.
Based on 10th/12th level Marathi, candidate have to solve the related question.

There are two examination under Prelims
>GS(General Studies)
>CSAT(Civil Service Aptitude Test)
Each paper consist maximum of 200 marks.

Candidates qualified in Prelims with graduation degree in any subject from any recognized university are eligible to appear in Mains examination.
There will be two language papers, Marathi and English subjective type and 4 GS papers 150 marks each.

Candidates qualified in Mains also are called for interview then merit list is declared considering Mains and Interview marks.

As it is clear that Marathi is compulsory in MPSC only in mains examination.
There will be one paper of Marathi in which candidates need to write essay on any one of given topics.
