Re: Is there any difference between CID exam and IPS exam?

Yes, definitely there are a lot differences between CID and IPS Exams.

CID posts are filled by SSC CGL exam while IPS posts are filled by UPSC Civil services exam.

SSC CGL exam contains Written exam then Interview.

While, IPS exam contains Preliminary exam, Main exam and then Interview.

Re: Is there any difference between CID exam and IPS exam?

Yes, there is a difference between CID Examination and IPS recruitment Examination. Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is a particular department and different from Indian Police Services (IPS).

>> In Indian Police Services, Only Police Services are offered. Where as through CID, candidates will be allocated to work upon some of the crimes like frauds, Assaults, Murders, Communal Riots...etc.,

>> In order to join IPS, you are required to appear in CSAT Examination that is conducted by UPSC.

>> Whereas, in order to join CID, there are two ways.
* Through Civil Services Recruitment
* Through Police services recruitment (will get promoted to work in CID ...but in starting candidates have to work for general police services)

CID for 'Criminal Investigation Department' is a crime investigating agency. You can join CID at assistant sub inspector level after completion of 12th standard.
But IPS for 'Indian Police Services' is a graduation level exam and you can apply for IPS exam only after completion of graduation degree from any recognized institute/university. Being an IPS officer you are expected to maintain law and order in the country.

CID stands for Criminal Investigation Department. Recruitment to CID is done through Indian Police Services examination. IPS entrance examination is called Civil Services examination. The qualification for Civil Services examination is bachelor's degree from a recognized university. Minimum age limit is 21 years.

For Sub Inspector post in CID there is one separate entrance exam called Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate level examination. Age limit is 20-30 years. Upper age relaxation applicable to candidates of reserved category.

Re: Is there any difference between CID exam and IPS exam?

There is no difference in entrance examination for recruitment of CID Officer and IPS Officer examination.

For recruitment as an IPS Officer or to join CID as an officer candidates have to appear and qualify in Civil Service examination conducted by UPSC.

The examination is conducted in three stages as Preliminary, Mains and Interview stages for final selection.

The other option for recruitment in CID as an officer is through promotion after joining state police service.
