now coming to your question

you can start your preparation by directly on your own or by joining in an a good coaching institute

and having friends of the same interest will also fetch you

its a vast syllabus examination you have to work on it for nearly 4 to 5 months

upto 14 hours a day then only you can get through first exam or stage to say i.e. CSAT

after that you'll have main examination in which you have to select optionals

in this the selection should be purely based on your personal interest

because your going to spend the most time on it you have to select according to your interest scope of scoring good marks are there for mathematics and geography and also history according to me

the options will and should change from person to person

for the preparation tips and tips of professionals you go to you tube and click on search box like this tips to clear civils examintion then you'll get some videos download them and follow them you will definitely succeed

As you know that CRF stands for Central Recruitment Fee.
For all exams conducted by the UPSC, you need to pay a minimal application fee.
The fee is payable through the means of CRF stamp.

The stamps are available in the denominations of Rs.50/-.

You need to purchase and paste the stamp on the given area on the form.

The stamp must be checked by Post Office clerk, by putting a date stamp on it in such a way that half of it lies on the CRF stamp and the other half on the form.

Also no CRF stamp is required by Women,SC/ST and physically Handicapped candidates.

Re: How to start preparation for IAS exam? Which optionals to choose?

hi!

Civil services exam conducted for recruitment of IAS officers is one of the toughest exam in India. Hard work, determination & right strategy will help you to get selected.

In order to start your preparation you should at first learn the exam pattern & syllabus of the CSAT exam ( effective from 2011). Then check the availability of the books and select the books ofbest author.

Being updated on the Latest happenings all over the globe and good knowledge of GK are again very essential.

Be very particular about the subject you choose for mains once you cleared csat exam. Choose that subject in which you have confidence.

Re: How to start preparation for IAS exam? Which optionals to choose?

Hi,

For IAS you need to apply for the Civil Services exam. The notification for the exam will come in the month of 2nd january in the employment newspaper.
The form will be available at the cost of Rs. 25 and you need to affix a CRF stamp on it of Rs 100.
You can get the detailed information about this exam on the website upsc.gov.in. check it during february.
The exam is divided into two exams. Prelims will be conducted in the month of May and it will consist GK and Aptitude only. In Mains you need to choose subjects and it will be purely written essays and debates.
You must choose only those subjects in which you are or you may feel confident while preparing them thoroughly.
Most of the candidates choose History, Economics, Administration as they are a bit easy than others.

Re: How to start preparation for IAS exam? Which optionals to choose?

Minimum education criteria = Graduate
Maximum age criteria = 28yrs (for General category and I think it is 32 years for SC/ ST categories)

How to apply:-You have to apply for UPSC (Union Public Services Commission) exam.

There is no optional subject so donot worry about that!!
the pattern for UPSc has changed as the Prime Minister has approved the proposal for introduction of Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) in place of the existing Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination. The CSAT is expected to come into effect from Civil Services Examination, 2011.

It consits of two paper and each paper of Two hrs..

(Paper 1) (200 marks) consists of
Current events.
History
Geography
Indian Polity and governance
Economic and social development
and General science.

(Paper II) (200 marks)
Comprehension
Logical reasoning and analytical ability
Decision making and problem solving
General mental ability
Basic numeracy(Class X level)
English language comprehension skills (Class X level)
