Re: After B.E can I do IAS? How to start with preparations and books to be referred?

Yeah sure you can do IAS after B Tech !

The required criteria and qualification for IAS are :

1.) You should be 21-30 years as on 1.7.2011.

2.) You should hold a Bachelor’s degree of a recognised university with at least one of the subjects namely Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physcs, Statistics and Zoology or in Enginerring or an equivalent qualification .

Now you can take a maximum of Four attempts.

As far as preparation part is concerned, IAS is one of the toughest exams in India. So you have to be very knowledgeable to crack this one.

Either you prepare by yourself, or you can take up some good coaching for this. That depends on you.

Here I am listing some of the books you can refer to :

1. An Introduction to Probability Theory & Mathematical Statistics -V K Rohtagi

2. Calculus - Santhi Narayan 3.Analytic Geometry - Shantinarayan, HC Sinha, DK Jha and Sharma

3. History books of Classes XI and XII - NCERT

4. Principles of Geography (Class XII-Part I, II)
General Geography of India (Class XII) Part I - NCERT
Geography of India - Resources and Regional Development Part II (Class XII) - NCERT

5. NCERT books on Science.
Science and Technology supplements in the Newspapers and magazines.

6. At least one major national newspaper - either The Times of India or The Hindu
Newsweeklies like India Today or/and Outlook
Current Affairs and News Analysis of BBC.

and many more. You can take a coaching rather to be precise in your preparation.

Good luck !

Anyone who is graduate can do IAS. This is the toughest exames of india. You must be mentally or physically prepared for it.
You will have to give atleast 8-10 hours to study.
There will be two parts of exame. 1. general knowledge
2. CCET
each exames contain 200 marks each. and after you will have to get throgh main exames contains 1800 marks and then interview.
give priority to your personal notes behalf of other coaching institues notes.

Yes you are eligible for IES.

IAS is an exam that makes you to enter into the competative world and make you to get the top posts such as DC and DSP and ACP so on..

To become an IAS you should have completed your graduation first in any stream from any recognized university....that is the only educational criteria....then take a look at the following things.

1. Your age should be between 21 years and 30 years.
[33 years for Sc/ST]

2. You should have good knowledge in current affairs and social issues.
[Because you need to have very strong in that]

So if you fulfill the above conditions, you can easily crack IAS exam.

official website-- http://www.upsc.gov.in

The Exam is basically divided into two parts...

1. Preliminary
2. Main

In Preliminary, 2 papers are there...

Each paper carry 200 marks and duration is 2 hours.

In main exam you have to select the optional subjects.

Any two subjects (each having 2 papers) to be selected from the optional subjects.

Each paper is of 3 hours duration.
