Immunization is the method of fortifying the immune system of an individual against diseases.  Immunology belongs to a branch of medical science. This branch studies the characteristics of immune in micro and macro organisms.

Immunization

The act of immunization protects children and adults from contagious diseases. Immunization strengthens the immune system of an individual by using an agent. This agent is known as the immunogenic. With the help of immunization, the human body will be safe from specific diseases or infections. It is given as a shot or injection. On the other hand, in the case of polio vaccine, it is adminsitered as drops in the mouth. There are no specific courses available for immunization.

Immunology

Immunology is concerned with the physiological functioning of the immune system. It also deals with the failing of the immune system. Candidates who would like to join the course in immunology should be graduates in MBBS and M.Pharm along with M.Tech and M.V.Sc. Candidates should have obtained a minimum of 60 percent marks in their class 12 exams. Those candidates who are writing their final exams are eligible to apply too. There are many institutes in India which offers courses in immunology.

Key differentiators between Immunology and Immunization

Immunology deals with the physiological working of the human body. Immunization is the most harmless and efficient method of giving protection to the human body against many diseases. Infectious diseases like poliomyelitis, tetanus, diphtheria etc in addition to severe maladies like rubella, measles and hepatitis B etc can be prevented by taking immunization routinely in childhood. It is very important for both adults and children to immunize themselves as these diseases can lead to serious complications and sometimes even to death. By examining the branch of immunology keenly, we can prevent the affliction of immunological disorders like immune deficiency, transplant rejection, hypersensitivities etc. In addition to this, the physiological, chemical and physical features of the immune system are also examined closely in this branch.
