Since you have completed Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, you can apply for the post of Train Engine Driver.
To do so, you must have to appear in the Assistant Loco Pilot Entrance Examination, qualifying in which you will be eligible for the post of Train Driver.
Candidates after the completion of Diploma courses are eligible for the above mentioned entrance examination.

For becoming an engine driver in Indian Railways you need to crack the exam for loco pilot post, which is held every year. Diploma in mechanical is absolutely fine for loco pilot post. Just make sure that your age is according to the eligibility criteria before applying.

Selection will be based on the performance in the written exam and physical fitness test conducted by RRB. Hence, you should be well prepared for both stages, if you want to crack the exam.

In order to become a driver of a train you must have completed 10th standard from a recognized board and should hold an ITI degree in any specific trade or diploma in the filed of mechanical/electrical/electronics/automobile engineering. Your age should not exceed 30 years. As you have completed diploma in mechanical, so after that you have to appear for RRB entrance examination conducted for the post of loco pilot.

After qualifying the examination with good marks you will get training and will be appointed for the post of assistant driver and after getting proper experience you can get promoted to the post of engine driver.
