Hello friend,
There is lots of scope for Genetic engineering in both India and abroad these days with improvisation in Biotechnology and Bio-Medical sciences. Genetic engineering, also called genetic modification, is the direct human manipulation of an organism's genome using modern DNA technology. It involves the introduction of foreign DNA or synthetic genes into the organism of interest. Scope for Genetic engineering There is an increasing demand for genetic engineers in India as well as abroad. Genetic engineers are mainly absorbed in medical and pharmaceutical industries, the agricultural sector, and the research and development departments of the government and private sectors. You can also take up teaching as an option. Genetic engineering involves developing hybrid varieties of plants, making a plant disease resistant by transferring genes from a plant that already has the characteristic, introducing Genetically Modified foods by changing the colour, size, texture of the produce of plants such as fruits and vegetables. GE in humans can be to correct severe hereditary defects by introducing normal genes into cells in place of missing or defective ones. As there are only few colleges in Maharashtra for genetic engineering I'll give the list of colleges in India for Genetic Engineering. Colleges in India for Genetic engineering [FONT=verdana][FONT=verdana]1. All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Ansari Marg, New Delhi-110 029. 2. Amravati Uaniversity, Amravati-44 602 3. Yes.you can do if you have science stream with maths subject, then you can do Genetics engineering.
Fee structure is widely different for all institute and universtiy.Generally it varies from Rs.50000 to Rs. 90000 per year. Duration of Genetics engineerin is 4 year(8 semester). After completing 12th scinece, you have to apply for engineering for perticular university and you will get admission according to your merit marks. Scope: Genetic engineering or genetic modification refers to the process of manipulating the characteristics and functions of the original genes of an organism. The objective of this process is to introduce new physiological and physical features or characteristics. Genetic engineering meddles with the organism’s natural reproductive process, whether sexual or asexual. It gives it a new direction which is different from its natural disposition and development. The process involves the isolation and manipulation of the genes by introducing the new DNA into the cells. DNA is a blue print of the individual characteristics of an organism. The information stored in the DNA controls the management of biochemical process of each organism. The life, development and unique characteristics of the organism depend upon on its own DNA. The aims of the study, development and practice of genetic engineering are noble and beneficial for mankind. Genetic engineering may help make crops resistant to herbicides used to kill the unwanted plants and weeds which obstruct their full growth. Though some herbicides are selective and kill only the specifically targeted unwanted plants, there are others which are non selective and besides killing the useless and obstructive weeds, kill any plants they come in contact thus killing the plants which are sought to be protected. The domain of genetic engineering can extend from plants to cover both the animal and human life. It can, for example, hybridize the production of the animals and promote the growth of healthy species of milk producing animals, stronger and healthier horses, cows and bullocks which can better withstand the wear and tear of life. |

Most institutes do not offer courses in Genetic Engineering as a special discipline but as a subsidiary in biotechnology, microbiology, biochemistry streams. Genetics is offered at the undergraduate level, at Kakatiya University, Warangal and Osmania University, Hyderabad, both in Andhra Pradesh. Some of the universities which offer genetic Engineering courses at postgraduate and doctorate levels are the Bio-Informatics Centre of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) New Delhi, Indian Institute of Technology (Kharagpur and Delhi), Delhi University, University of Calcutta, MKU-Coimbatore, Birla Institute of Technology (Pilani Rajasthan), University of Lucknow, Jadavpur University (Kolkata, West Bengal) etc. |
