You can select the subject you have studied in M.Sc. This subject must be included in the list of subjects given in UGC website. As microbiology is included under the list for CSIR NET, you can take the test in the same stream. NET is conducted two times a year, June and December. Applications can be submitted through the web portal of CSIR.

There is no age criteria for LS post but for JRF post , your age should not over 28 years old. NET means National Eligibility test.This entrance examination is conducted for selection of candidates for the following: 1.Junior Research fellowship 2.Lectureship. >>It is conducted by the University Grants commission twice every year in the June and December. Eligibility criteria : 1.Academic qualification required for the NET : >>You should have at least master's degree in any stream from a recognized university. >>Final year post graduation candidates can also apply for the exam. >>Minimum of 55% is needed in P.G in order to apply for the NET exams.5% relaxation in marks to the sc/st candidates. So after passing your master's degree in microbiology ,you can go for the NET exams. 2.Age limit: The minimum age limit is 21 years.The upper age limit for the JRF is 28 years. >>For lectureship ,there is no upper age limit that is you can apply at any age. The University Grants Commission conducts the NET [National Eligibility Test] every year for those candidates who are interested in getting selected for the posts of : 1) Junior Research Fellowship 2) Lectureship The National Eligibility Test is conducted twice every year in the months of June and December. The Minimum Educational Qualification Required for the National Eligibility Test is that the candidate must have completed Post Graduation in any stream from any UGC recognized university. As you have passed M.Sc in Microbiology , you are absolutely eligible for the National Eligibility Test only if you have secured a minimum of 55% marks in Post Graduation. A Relaxation of 5% marks is given to those candidates who belong to SC/ST Category whereas no relaxation in marks is given to OBC Candidates. The Age Criteria does not implement over candidates who apply for the Lectureship but for the candidates applying for the JRF Post , must have an age in between 21-28 years. Relaxation of 3 years for OBC Candidates and of 5 years for SC/ST Candidates is granted by the University Grants Commission. National Eligibility Test exam conducted by the University Grants Commission twice in a year i.e in the month of July and December. There are two type of exams in NET exam i.e JRF(Junior Research Fellowship) and Lectureship. Eligibility criteria:- The applicant must have to complete Master's degree with atleast 55% of marks from a recognized university. Applicant must be a citizen of India. For SC/ST candidates--> The candidates should be complete master's degree with atleast 50% of marks from a recognized university. Final year persuing applicants may also be eligible. Age criteria for JRF:- The maximum age limit is 28 years, There is no minimum age limit. Relaxation of 3 years for OBC candidates, Relaxation of 5 years for SC/ST candidates. No age limits for Lectureship. Exam pattern:- Application fee details:- Rs. 450 for General category, Rs. 225 for OBC category, Rs. 110 for SC/ST category candidates.
