Yes, graduates in any subject can apply for the position of IAS Officer. But they must qualify civil services exam. Age of the candidate must be less than 30 years. You must be physically fit also. 3 year and 5 year age relaxation is there for reserved category candidates.

Re: Am I eligible to become a IAS officer? I have passed BSc with Maths hons
Yes. You are eligible to become IAS Officer. The reason is you have completed B.Sc course right .
The candidates who have completed Graduation with any of the stream from a recognized university are eligible to apply for Civil Services Exam which is the common written exam through which the candidates will be able to join various civil services like Indian Administrative Service Indian Police Service Indian Revenue Service ect. IAS is the top civil service among all the civil services. As you have completed Graduation in B.Sc, I suggest you to choose the optional subject first in accordance with the stream that you have gone through in your Graduation. Carry out preparation for CSAT Exam and also for Main Exam (which includes the questions only on your chosen optional subject). First get through CSAT Exam. Then you have to appear for Civil Services Main Exam. But your final selection will be decided by considering your performance in Interview also. Here is the age criteria that the candidates should have to be eligible for this exam. Candidates of General category should be in the age group of 21-30 years Candidates of OBC category should be in the age group of 21-33 years Candidates of SC or ST category should be in the age group of 21-35 years There is limit on the number of attempts for this exam which is Maximum of 4 attempts for General category Maximum of 7 times for OBC category No limit for SC or ST category For updated information on this exam, please visit http://www.upsc.gov.in/ |

Re: Am I eligible to become a IAS officer? I have passed BSc with Maths hons
Sure, you have completed graduation which is the requirement to apply for the Civil Services Examination. Then it does not matter whether you apply for Indian Administrative Service or the Indian Police Service.
There is no particular Bachelor's degree which you must complete for Civil Services Examination. Any graduation course will be accepted by the Union Public Service Commission as long as it has been completed from a recognized college. Indian Administrative Service officers are given the task of implementing government policies across the country. IAS officers are required to consistently visit places where policy is being implemented to ensure that things are going on smoothly and that there are no irregularities. You can apply for the Civil Services only next year. Admisson will start some time in February or March and Preliminary Exam will be conducted in May/June. It should give you plenty of time to prepare for the exam. IAS Eligibility 1. You must have Indian citizenship to apply for this exam. 2. The qualification requirement is Bachelor's degree. 3. There is no marks criteria. 4. Your age should be 21 years. Candidate younger that it are not eligible. 5. Upper age limit varies for General and reserve category. For general its 30 years. 6. For OBC its 33 years. 7. While for SC/ST the upper age limit is 35 years. 8. Unlike IPS, there are no physical criteria for IAS. 9. The number of attempts per candidate is 4. 10. OBC have 7 attempts to clear the exam. 11. No limit for SC/ST. Selection Procedure 1. Preliminary Exam 2. Main Exam 3. Interview |
