Sir:

I am 24 years of age and have done my B.Com., in 2007 and have also done a diploma in banking and finance. Though currently employed in Mumbai for a private sector bank, I wish to take up Group I OR Group II examination as conducted by Tamil Nadu Government, to better my career. My parents are from Chennai, I am brought up in Mumbai, born in Chennai, though.

Am I eligible to appear for both the above exam groups? Kindly advise me of the above examinations, as to my eligibility to appear for, frequency of the exams, syllabus etc., and my career prospects under the above groups.

There are many posts under Group 1 and Group 2 services.Your eligible for most of the exams conducted by the TNPSC.Some of the posts which come under Group 1 services are:-
Deputy Collector,Deputy Superintendent of Police,District Registrar,Assistant Director of RDD,Assistant Commissioner(Commercial Tax Officer)..etc.

For the above mentioned posts your eligible for almost all posts like Assistant Collector,Assistant Commissioner but for some of the posts like Assistant Director of RDD you will be preferred last because of your qualification.The recruitment naturally depends on the vacancy.

Similarly there are number of posts in Group 2 like Assistant Registrar,Assistant Engineer..etc.You must be eligible for most of them but based on your educational qualification the preference level depends.

Eligibility
You need not worry about the age since candidates above 21 years of age can apply for the TNPSC Exam.Candidate should possess a Degree of any of the Universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or any other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament.
