The examination comprise of two stages of written exam and an interview. If you apply just after giving the final year examination of your bachelors degree program, you will have to make sure that by the time of the second stage of the written exam, you get your results. If you are not able to do so, no matter how well you have performed in the first stage of the civil service exam, your application will be rejected. The first stage is known as the preliminary exam/Civil Service Aptitude Test and the second stage of the written exam is known as Main Exam and is followed by an Interview. So, at this point of time, you should start your preparation for the civil service exam but simultaneously you should also concentrate on your graduation and try to qualify the Final Year Exam with good percentage of marks. The Preliminary Exam comprise of two papers both compulsory in nature and are based on General Studies and Aptitude Test. Qualifying this stage is mandatory to move to the next level but the marks secured in this stage are not considered while making the final merit list. For more information, refer to the official website of Union Public Service Commission. |

Re: Can I appear for IPS after pursuing graduation in 2nd year of BSc?
Sorry, you cannot appear for the the examination conducted by UPSC and State Level Public Service Commission(PSC) to become an IPS officer.UPSC conducts this examination in the form of CSAT and State Level PSC Board conducts the examination which it mentions separately as for example SP(Superintendent of Police) who is most probably an IPS cadre officer.
You can only appear for these examinations after completing your graduation course. There will be an age limit for appearing these sort of examinations. For the examination conducted by the UPSC the age limit is from 21-30 years.Age relaxation is provided for SC/St ,Government employees,PH categories,.etc.I have attached you the syllabus of the examination. For more information please go through the notification of the year 2011. The preliminary examination syllabus will almost be the same for both the exams conducted by UPSC and PSC but the exam followed after preliminary will change for both the Boards. UPSC-Click here |
