In order to be considered eligible for IAS Exam, usually known as Civil Services Examination, one needs to hold a bachelors degree awarded by a recognized university, in any discipline. In case when the candidate has pursued the bachelors degree program through distance mode, the university must be recognized by Distance Education Council of India, otherwise the candidate will not be considered eligible to write Civil Services Examination. So, before you apply for the examination, make sure that the university you are pursuing your bachelors degree program is recognized by the following regulatory bodies:

• University Grant Commission
• Distance Education Council

Apart from holding the required academic qualification, you must be within the age limit of 21-30 years to be eligible for the examination. For candidates belonging to SC/ST category, the maximum age limit is 35 years and for candidates belonging to OBC category, the maximum age limit is 33 years.
