Which course do I need to study for becoming an Eye Doctor?


Sir, I don't want any medical course which needs NEET. So, I need some course in medicinal where I can get admission without appearing for NEET. I wish to become an Eye Doctor. So, what should I do?

To become an eye doctor, you need to pursue B.Optometry course from a recognized institute.

Bachelor of Clinical Optometry (i.e. B.Optom) is undergraduate course that deals with Optics involving structure, function and operation of human eye.

Some of the decent institutes for pursuing this course are listed below:
  • SRM University, Kanchipuram
  • Sharda University, Noida
  • Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal
  • Galgotias University, Noida
  • Bharti Vidyapeeth Deemed University, Pune
  • Amity University, Gurgaon
  • Dr. DY Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune
  • Chitkara University, Patiala

To be eligible for applying B.Optom course, you will have to apply for BVP EYECET entrance exam. There is no need to apply for NEET exam.

As per eligibility criteria of BVP EYECET exam, you should possess following:
You should have completed 10+2 with PCB or PCM or PCMB stream with at least 45% marks.
You should have attained age of at least 17 years.

Important dates regarding BVP EYECET 2020 exam:
  • Last date to apply: 2nd week of May, 2020
  • Entrance exam date: 4th week of May, 2020
  • Result declaration: 2nd week of June, 2020
  • Counseling sessions: 3rd week of June, 2020
  • Commencement of classes: 1st week of July, 2020
