You need to appear for the civil service exams. The next exam is scheduled for 12th June. If you are interested in appearing for the exam this year then you need to make sure the form reaches them by 21st March. You will first need to clear the CSAT exam. Thereafter there will be the mains and interview round to be cleared.

DETIALS OF UPSC IPS EXAM:
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Educational Qualifications for IPS : Bachelor’s degree of a recognized university with at least one of the subjects namely Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics and Zoology or a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Forestry or in Engineering or an equivalent qualification. Age limit: 21 years must be completed on 1st August of the year, which a candidate is appearing. Maximum 30 for general category, 33 for OBCs and 35 for SCs/STs. Number of Attempts Four attempts for open, seven for OBCs and no limit for SCs/STs. If a person appears in the Preliminary Examination or even one paper is counted as an attempt. Physical fitness criteria for IPS- Height – Male 165 cm Pahari Male (general also) & ST (not the SC/ OBC) – 160 cm Female 150 cm Pahari Female (general also) & ST (not SC/ OBC)- 145 cm Chest – Male Minimum 84 cm. Expansion 5 cm. Female Min 79 cm expansion 5 cm. Eye sight – 6/6 or 6/9 distant vision for good eye. 6/12 or 6/9 for worst eye. Near vision J 1 for good eye. J2 for worst eye. High standard for the Colour-blind test. No inherent night blindness. Vision should stereoscopic. Blood pressure (High) – Age 23 – 123, age 24 – 124, age 25 –122, age 28 – 124, age 30 –125, age 32 – 126, age 34 – 127. Ladies should not be pregnant at the time of Medical Test. Ear- good listening & normal ear cavity. 1000 to 4000 frequency hearing impairment shd not be more than 30 decibels. Nasal- candidate should not stammer while speaking. To become an IPS officer, you need to appear for the Civil Service exam conducted by the UPSC every year. The UPSC or the Union Public Service Commission of India is a central government body which conducts the exam.
The Eligibility condition to appear for the exam is: 1.Age Limit: Candidate must have attained minimum 21 years of age as on 1st August of the year of the exam. Also Upper Age limit is 30 years(relaxations for SC/ST,OBC accordingly to government rules). 2.Educational Qualifications: A Graduate in any field can apply for the exam. Also, students in the final year of the course which qualifies them as graduates can apply. 3.Maximum Permissible Attempts: General:4 OBC:7 SC/ST:No limit. The last date of submission of application form for the civil service exam is 21st March 2011, for the preliminary exam to be conducted on 12th June 2011. The application form is available at designated head post offices/post offices throughout the country. You may also apply online through www.upsconline.nic.in You must be a graduate within the age limit of 21-30 years. Maximum age limit is relaxed upto 5 years fro SC/ST and 3 years for OBC's. The civil service examination comprises of three stages Civil Service Aptitude Test (CSAT) Main Examination Interview The syllabus of the CSAT will be as follows carrying 200 marks each. Paper 1 Current events of national and international importance History of India and Indian national movement Indian and World Geography- physical, social, economic geography of India and the world Indian Polity and governance – constitution, political system, panchayati raj, public policy, Rights issues, etc. Economic and social development – sustainable development, poverty, inclusion, demographics, social sector initiatives etc. General issues on environmental ecology, bio-diversity and climate change General science. A Graduate in any field can apply for the exam.

You must have a graduate degree in any discipline of any of the Universities Candidates who are in the final semester or have taken their final degree exam are also eligible . Physical Standard Height Standard Pahari & general Male: 165 cm ST male : 160 cm Chest Standard Male Minimum 84 cm. Expansion 5 cm. Female Min 79 cm expansion 5 cm. Eye sight – 6/6 or 6/9 No case of color or night blindness . |

To become an IPS officer
first of all you need to complete graduation. IPS(Indian Police Service) exam is conducted by the UPSC(UNION PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION) once in a year. Eligibility criteria; -->The candidate should be complete graduation from a recognised university -->Percentage is not required for this exam. -->Final year candidates also eligible -->Candidate should be a citizen of india. In order to become IPS Officer, you should have to crack civil services examination being conducted by UPSC every year. The complete selection procedure for this is by -Civil Services Aptitude Test(or Civil Services Preliminary Exam) -Civil Services Main Examination -Interview Here is the required eligibility criteria for the candidate to take this exam. Academic Qualification : -One should have completed Graduation with any of the stream from a recognized university. -Candidates who have appeared for final year exams of Graduation course and waiting for the result can also apply for this Exam.
