Default Re: Eligibility for Assistant Commissioner post

To be eligible for the post of Assistant Commissioner in India, the candidate must meet the following criteria (For the one who is already a Central Government Employee):
  • Nationality: The candidate must be an Indian citizen.
  • Age limit: The candidate must be between 30 to 40 years of age. Relaxation in age limit is provided for certain categories, such as SC/ST, OBC, and ex-servicemen.
  • Educational Qualification: The candidate must have a degree from a recognized university.
  • Work experience: The candidate must have at least 5 years of experience in a supervisory or managerial role in a government or private organization.
  • Other requirements: The candidate must also meet the physical and medical fitness standards set by the government for the post of Assistant Commissioner.

These eligibility criteria may vary depending on the specific requirements of the organization or department recruiting for the post of Assistant Commissioner.

However, in general for Indian Civilians. You will have to go through the Civil Services route. The selection process for Indian Police Service (IPS) consists of three stages:
  • Civil Services Examination (Preliminary Exam): The first stage is the Civil Services Examination (Preliminary Exam), which is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The Preliminary Exam is a screening test to shortlist candidates for the next stage.
  • Civil Services Examination (Main Exam): The second stage is the Civil Services Examination (Main Exam), which is also conducted by the UPSC. The Main Exam consists of a written examination and a personality test. The written examination consists of nine papers, out of which seven are counted for merit ranking.
  • Training: The final stage is the training. After successfully clearing the Civil Services Examination, candidates undergo training at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad. The training period is approximately 3 years, after which the candidate is appointed as an IPS officer.

Please, note that you won'tbepromoted to Assistant Commission directly. But, surely and eventually with time.
