Eligibility Criteria for IAS Examination.

IAS examination is also known as the civil services examination which is conducted by UPSC in every year for the selection of the talented candidates of India as the post of IAS officer. IAS officer job is consider as the one of the best job of India.To appear in the IAS examination you need the following eligibility criteria :

Educational Qualification = Graduation in any stream from a recognize University. The final year graduation student are also eligible to apply for the IAS examination.

Age Limit = The age must be between 21 to 30 years at the time of appearing of this examination. The age relaxation is also applicable for the candidates belong to reservation category.

Selection Procedure = The IAS examination is conducted in three step. (1) Preliminary examination. (2) Main examination. (3) Personal Interview. After successful selection in the preliminary examination you will be call for the main examination and then for personal interview.

Eligibility Criteria For Ias critera
(i) Age limits :

21-30 years as on 1.7.2011
(ii) Educational Qualifications :

Bachelor’s degree of a recognised university with at least one of the subjects namely Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physcs, Statistics and Zoology or a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Forestry or in Enginerring or an equivalent qualification.

(iii) No. of permissible attempts :

Four (Seven attemps of OBCs and no limit for SCs/STs

The eligibility criteria for appearing in IAS exam conducted by UPSC is-

* The candidate must be a citizen of India.

* He/she must hold a bachelor's degree in any field from a recognised university.

* For general category the age limit is 21 to 30 years.

* For OBC category age limit is 21 to 33 years.

* For SC/ST category age limit is 21 to 35 years.

* General candidates can give maximum 4 attempts, OBC 7 and SC/ST no limit within age limit.

* No minimum percentage are required.

IAS exam is conducted by UPSC.

After completion of your GRADUATION degree , you are eligible fo IAS exam.

So those candidate are completed graduation degree with any stream from any recognized university are eligible for IAS exam.

Also your age must be in between 20 to 30 years.

Age relaxation is provide fro OBC/SC/ST candidate . For OBC candidate have age relaxation for 3 years and for SC/ST candiadte have age relaxation is 5 years.

To become IAS you have to appear for the civil service exam which is conducted by the UPSC twice a year and the examination is done in two phases Preliminary and the MAIN exam.

Preliminary examination is of objective types and common for all students where as main examination consists of written exam and the Interview .

In the preliminary exam there will be total 2 papers and these two papers will be common for all students and of duration 2 hours each .Its based on general studies .

The main examination consist of total 9 papers .The candidates have to choose 2 optional subjects from the list of optional subjects .There will be 2 papers on each optional paper which means that there will be total 4 papers on the two optional subjects .

The main exam is of total 2000 marks

Only those students will be eligible for the main exam who have cleared the preliminary exam

ELIGIBILITY:

You should have got a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university.
You should lies between 21-30 years for general students .There is some relaxation given in upper age to the SC/ST which is of 5 years and to OBC its of 3 years which means that the upper age limit for the SC/ST and OBC is ::

35 years and 33 years respectively .

The Exam is basically divided into two parts...

1. Preliminary
2. Main

In Preliminary, 2 papers are there...

Each paper carry 200 marks and duration is 2 hours.

The subjects in Paper 1 are:

• Current events of national and international importance

• History of India and Indian National Movement

• Indian and World Geography - Physical, Social, Economic geography

of India and the World.

• Indian Polity and Governance – Constitution, Political System,

Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.

• Economic and Social Development – Sustainable Development,

Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector Initiatives, etc.

• General issues on Environmental ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate

Change - that do not require subject specialization

• General Science.

The subjects in paper 2 are:

• Comprehension

• Interpersonal skills including communication skills;

• Logical reasoning and analytical ability

• Decision making and problem solving

• General mental ability

• Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude

etc.) (Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data

sufficiency etc. -Class X level)

• English Language Comprehension skills (Class X level).

• Questions relating to English Language Comprehension skills of Class X level

(last item in the Syllabus of Paper-II) will be tested through passages from

English language only without providing Hindi translation thereof in the question

paper.

• The questions will be of multiple choice, objective type.

In main exam you have to select the optional subjects from the following:
