To become IPS officer, you need to work hard a lot because it is not easy to become IPS officer, lots of competition is there for this post and lots of candidates appear for civil services examination to become IPS. If your aim is to become IPS officer, then please complete your graduation first. Only graduate candidates are eligible to become IPS Officer. For this you have to apply for the UPSC Civil services examination and this examination is conducted by UPSC for the recruitment IAS, IPS and other services. Notification published in the month of February every year and eligible candidates may fill the application form online only. Examination is conducted in 2 stages: -> Preliminary examination -> Mains. First, you have to cracked the Preliminary examination and there are 2 papers and both are objective. If you cracked this stage then you are eligible for Next exam i.e Mains. You have to choose the subjects in main examination as per your Graduation basis. Your age should between 21 to 30 years to apply for Civil services examination, Upper age relaxation is applicable for SC/ST/OBC Candidates. All India Combined Competitive Examination for the Civil Services conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) comprises of two successive stages: Preliminary Examination: It is of objective type, which is a qualifying examination. Main Examination: It consists of written examination and interview. The Preliminary Examination is held in May/June and the Main Examination in October/November. Eligibility Criteria : 1.Age limit- 21 years minimum 30 years maximum, 33 for OBCs and 35 for SCs/STs . 2.Number of Attempts Four attempts for open, seven for OBCs and no limit for SCs/STs. Minimum Physical Standard The physical standards are important for the job profile and the rigorous training at the NPA, which includes weekly run for 10 k.m. in 60 minutes, route march for 25 k.m. UAC, Horse riding, rock climbing, assault course, PT obstacles, rope climbing etc. For IPS- Height – Male 165 cm Pahari Male (general also) & ST (not the SC/ OBC) – 160 cm Female 150 cm Pahari Female (general also) & ST (not SC/ OBC)- 145 cm Chest – Male Minimum 84 cm. Expansion 5 cm. Female Min 79 cm expansion 5 cm. Eye sight – 6/6 or 6/9 distant vision for good eye. 6/12 or 6/9 for worst eye. Near vision J 1 for good eye. J2 for worst eye. The correction is by lenses only. High standard for the Colour-blind test. No inherent night blindness. Vision should stereoscopic. Blood pressure (High) – Age 23 – 123, age 24 – 124, age 25 –122, age 28 – 124, age 30 –125, age 32 – 126, age 34 – 127. Ear- good listening & normal ear cavity. 1000 to 4000 frequency hearing impairment shd not be more than 30 decibels. Here is a list of all the optional subjects: Psychology

UPSC conducts Civil services exam to select candidates to IPS. There are two stages for selection process, prelims and mains. In prelims, candidates are asked questions on general aptitude, GK, Indian polity, constitution and so on. In mains, there will be 7 papers including one optional paper. Those who clear the written exam should qualify physical efficiency test and personal interview.

To become an IPS officer, you have to appear in the UPSC Civil services Exams.
Minimum eligibilty to apply for the UPSC Civil Services exams is: Education: Graduation pass in any stream from a recognized university No minimum percentage of marks is required in Graduation Age- Minimum 21 years Maximum 30 years OBC can apply till 33 years SC/ST can apply till 35 years Attempts/Chances: UPSC has also fixed number of attempts General- 4 times OBC-7 times SC/ST-No Restrictions UPSC Civil Services Exams are held in three stages: Prelims MAINS Interview Next prelims exams would be held on 26th May 2013 |

IPS is Indian Police Services. Those who want to become IPS Officer have to appear for Civil Services Examination.
Civil Services Examination is conducted by UPSC and you must have the required qualification if you want to apply for it. Only Graduates from a recognized University are eligible to apply for Civil Services Examination. You must also fulfill the age criteria before applying which is given below: General Category - 21 to 30 years OBC Category - 21 to 33 years SC/ST Category - 21 to 35 years For IPS cadre you also must have the physical fitness and eyesight as per the rules then only you will be considered for it. The examination will have some stages that you have to clear with merit. -Preliminary Exam -Mains and Interview -Medical Examination The number of attempts are also limited for General and OBC with 4 and 7 attempts.
