how many hrs ideal study is required for gate preparation...please give me the details

See, the decision is Quality Vs Quantity.
Rather than discussing on the number of hours, focus more on the number of topics you have to complete within a specific month, so that your course gets completed.

Its good to have a regular schedule of what you study and for that minimum 8 hours of study is must and during the last 2 months, try to make that 8 to 10 hours, so that you spend maximum time with your books.

Also, make sure that sitting on study table is not enough, try to maximize that.
The most important thing for any competitive exam is SMART STUDY along with HARD WORK.
