Hello.. i am an engineer in electronics & telecommunication branch... I had applied to HPCL for the post of engineer trainee... Their written exam is on 23rd january...please send me the paper pattern & sample question papers for the same...

Part-I: this section consists of Quantitative, English Language and Intellectual ability (reasoning)-120 questions
Part-II: this section consists of questions from Technical Knowledge-50 questions
Total written exam time is 2 hours and total questions is 170. so here time management is very important. here i will give clearly what type of questions they asked
PART-I
English Language: they given around 40 questions from this, like prepositions, articles, meanings, antonyms, reading passage and correction of sentences
Quantitative : in this section also they given around 40 questions, they asked about ratios, percentages, etc
Intelluctual Ability: here also they given 40 questions, here they given some series of figures and asked find the next figure. and two statements are given and asked find the conclusion and also they given one conclusion, they asked find the correct statement like wise they asked 40 questions from reasoning.
PART-II
This is Technical section, here i given what type of questions they asked and the topics also for Instrumentation branch
they asked mainly on the following topics, these all are basics only,
control systems, micro processor, op-amps, transducers, measurements, logic circuits and some from micro controllers,they asked most of the questions from control systems and digital electronics.
all questions are objective type questions, so we have to answer 170 questions from 120 min. so time management is very important.

hey i m narendra...i want to request to board that if we r consuming such a large amount of money to fill up the form then they should at least send us our status of performance in the exam however someone can't clear even then he should be send his performance report through his mail id so that he can analyse his performance and can prepare for next competitive exam. also they should decide a proper syllabus for the written test. following things should be mentioned in the performance report:
1. marks obtained
2. cut off marks
3. all india ranking
4. category wise ranking
5. percentile

may be they want us to go the RTI way

HPCL(hindustan petroleum chemical products) a major government oil refinery and petroleum products offering job as a officer trainee in hpcl

The exam consists of objective patterns in 2 parts:

1.general aptitude,it consistes of

*logical

*data interpretation

*Quantitative

* english knowledge

2.Technical parts

*It depends uopn the decipline applied for,
ex:If IT positioned,programming language is as technical parts

For ece,VLSi,embedded system,etc is technical papers

And moreover syllabus is same for the examination conducted for sail,Bhel,etc..

So refer that questions papaers for reference.

Time duration is 2 1/2 hrs in order the complete the exam.

The syllabus of any PSU for any stream is more or less same as that of GATE.You can consult the syllabus of GATE for preparation of HPCL or any of the PSUs.Getting questions is difficult because PSUs does not allow candidates to retain question papers of exams.But you can have some memory based papers from certain websites

Section I is based on questions on Quantitative Aptitude, Intellectual Ability and English Language

Section II has got questions based on petroleum compositions and process, mixtures, chemical technology, mass transfer, fluid mechanics, CRE, Heat transfer, Process Instrumentation etc

you can find books from Made Easy Publications or G K Publications or S.Chand Publications for better preparation
