i am student of civil engineering and would be graduating this year. i got a.i.r. 240 in gate 2011. i have been offered direct admission in m. tech. programme in petroleum engineering discipline which is offered by the oceanic dept. of iitm. since there is no information available about the coarse and placement, so can any of your help me in this regard.

The Petroleum Engineering stream is really a good stream for specialization.

The petroleum industry is full of money and if you get a job you will surely be getting

handful of money. The annual package varies from 5 to 16 lacs for placement in India

which can be raised further if sent to foreign.

As far as IIT Madras is concerned I think there is no doubt that placement is very good

in the college and industries of all sector visit for campus interviews.

So, I would suggest you to grab the opportunity without any secondary thought.

i think its a great opportunity for you without giving a second thought to it you should join it. as you are saying you have got it in IITM its one of the best institutes in india and the placement is also great there but the only choice you have to make is whether you are interested in this branch or not . if the answer is yes then surely join it
