I want to do B.Tech. So, is JEE entrance exam necessary to join any engineering courses in India? Please, tell me the procedure to apply for JEE exam. Further, also let me know when should I start applying for it.

No, Joint Entrance Examination of Engineering (JEE) is not mandatory to get admission in any engineering college in India. JEE exam is held every year in two different exams (JEE Main and JEE Advanced). Candidates have to attend the JEE Main exam, if they want to pursue engineering courses in NITs, IIITs etc.. And, JEE Advanced exam is mandatory for those who wish to pursue B.Tech courses in IITs. Candidates can get admissions in private engineering colleges without appearing in JEE Main and Advanced exam.

Procedure to apply for JEE Main exam:

>> Candidates have to visit official website of JEE Main( http://jeemain.nic.in)
>> Fill the application form and upload scanned copies of necessary documents.
>> Pay the fees online and submit the application form.
>> Take a print out of the application form for future references.

JEE stands for Joint Entrance Examination and it is held by CBSE once every year for offering admission in undergraduate technical degree courses such as B.Tech/B.Arch for pursuing CFTIs ( Centrally Funded Institute of Technology ) like IIT, NIT, IIIT, ISM, etc. .

Now, as far as you are concerned about the necessity to appear in JEE for admission in engineering course then as mentioned above if you interested in pursuing degree course in from CFTIs then you must have to appear in JEE. But, you still have the opportunity to pursue engineering courses from other private engineering colleges or government colleges funded by concerned state government by qualifying their respective admission test such as State EEE/CETs, SRMEEE, VITEEE, etc. .

As far as you are concerned about the starting date to apply for JEE then it usually starts in the month of November-December of every year and the examination is conducted usually on the first Sunday of April every year.

No, it is not necessary to apply for JEE Main exam for getting admission in any engineering college. There are many other engineering entrance exams that are conducted nationwide for getting admisssion in engineering colleges like MHT-CET, COMEDK, UPSEE, MP-PET, Orissa JEE, GUJCET, BITSAT, etc. You can get admission to engineering college after qualifying anyone of these exams also.
If you want to apply for JEE Main exam, then you can apply for it in the month of November-December. This is the time when JEE Main application form releases online and you can apply for it online.
