VAO stands for Village Administrative Officers which is conducted by TNPSC.

If you have 12th standard OR graduation degree then you are applicable for VAO exam but you age should be in between 21 to 30 years old.Age relaxation is provide as per govt rule But you must know the Tamil language.

1. Full form of VAO is Village Administrative Officers. To recruit officers for this post Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission conducts an exam whenever there is a vacancy. The exam is commonly known as the TNPSC VAO Exam.

2. To sit for this exam you need to have a secondary school leaving certificate as that is the minimum qualification required if you want to give this exam. Even higher qualifications will be considered only when you have this S.S.L.C certificate to show.

3. The minimum age limit to give this exam is 21 years. This is binding on all no matter what your category is.

4. The upper age limit for the general category candidates is 30 years. There is age relaxation for the reserved category candidates. There upper age limit is 40.

5. It is very important to know the Tamil language properly since the local languages in Tamil Nadu villages is Tamil. So to properly communicate with them you need to be well versed in this particular language.

6. This does not means that if you do not know Tamil you cannot apply for this post. In that case after getting selected you have to sit for the Tamil language exam which is also conducted by TNPSC and pass in it. This should be done within two years of getting selected.

7. Since TNPSC expects that only physically and mentally fit candidates will give the exam therefore as a proof you have to show them medical certificates to prove your medical fitness. This is mandatory again.

8. Out of the vacancies available almost 30% seats are kept reserved for the women only and 5% for the ex-servicemen. For the physically handicapped candidates too 3% of the total seats are kept reserced.

9. The selection procedure is based on the written exam mainly. Apart from this other things like which district you have chosen and the number of reserved seats per district etc. are also taken into consideration when taking the final decision.

10. For the exam you have to complete one paper only in three hours. The paper is divided into two sections: general knowledge and general tamil/general english. The first paper is bilingual. For each paper 150 marks have been alloted. Minimum qualifying marks is 90/300.
