Is M.Phil or PhD compulsory for the post of Professor in universities?

I have the teaching experience of 12 years as a Prosthodontist. Now, I am looking for change. I want to join any university at the post of Professor. So, what should I do now? How can I proceed with this? Do I need to do M.Phil or PhD for Professor in universities?

For assistant professor job you need to complete your PhD as of the recent UGC guidelines.
Do you have any question? or have anything to say?
