After completion of your 12th standard with PCM stream from a Government recognised board, you can pursue your higher studies in B.Tech course in any stream of your interest. If you are interested in Mechanical Engineering and if your parents are asking you to take Electrical Engineering then, I suggest you to take the course which you are interested and explain your parents why you are interested in Mechanical Engineering course, so, that may get convinced and allow you to choose Mechanical Engineering course.

** As per my knowledge, Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering is best for you rather than Electrical engineering.

** B.Tech. Mechanical Engineering or Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering is an undergraduate Mechanical Engineering course.

** The duration of this course is four years.

** Candidate should have passed 12th class in science stream with at least 50%.

The top branches of engineering are:

1. Mechanical Engineering.

2. Civil Engineering.

3. Electrical Engineering.

4. Electronics and Communication Engineering.

5. Computer Science engineering.

You have to pursue your degree in engineering not your parents. If you will not like electrical then you will not perform well. Select your interested stream and convince your parents.

The final call to make the decision should be yours afterall this is your life, so you should take the call.
As you are confused between Electrical and Mechanical Branch branch, I will explain the job role and future prospects of both the branches.

Eletrical Engineering: This is a professional course which basically deals with the electricity and electronics/electromagnetics. If you have interest in electronics like in Computers, Mobile, Electronic equipments etc, then this is best suited branch for you. It may be subdivied in the folllowing subfields which you may opt later on in your career :
Telecom, Communication Engineering, computer Programming, Signal processing , instrumentation etc . You will find yourself working in any of the above mentioned fields after you B.tech and if you wish to do higher study then you will have to choose any of the subject stated above.

Mechanical Engineering: This discipline makes use of differnet concepts of physics and material science to design and analyze complex mechanical machines. This subject is good for you if you have interest in Mechanics, thermodynamics and Structural science. So if you have interest in the said subjects and you want to take this course, then there is no bad to join the branch. After passing your degree you will have option to work in companies which deals with Mechanical instrument, Cars, Motorbikes, Agricultural instruments etc.

Before taking any decision on this matter, first you should check what type of work attracts you more as it is not only about grabbing a job in that field but your whole career will depend on it. If you just want to have some kind of technical knowledge, you can opt for any engineering course as a number of subjects are common in all engineering trades expect some specialisations.

Mechanical and Electrical are core streams of engineering. They are considered as evergreen streams of engineering. As per experts, student should follow stream in which he has interest not on suggestion of others.

You have mentioned that you have interest in Mechanical Engineering then without any doubt select this stream.

I suggest you to opt for mechanical branch as it is the evergreen branch where would we definitely placed . Without considering the packages offered, mechanical is the best branch and also for highly skilled people the companies offer good package, all you need is to get experience.

Both electrical and mechanical are mother branches . Both has so many opportunities in job sectors. Both has a stable job opportunities. Mechanical branch is all about hydrodynamics, kinematics etc.

Electrical branch is all about knowledge of power, motor, generator etc.

But jobs for mechanical engineering are growing much rapidly than electrical.

Now it depends on you, in which you are interested most.
