i am pursueing 3rd year in electronics and telecomm engg. And i aspire of being an IPS officer,can you suggest me some of the optional subjects which i may opt for the mains and how should i prepare for general studies?

You must select the subjects from the stream in which you are specialising. You must note down the syllabus from the UPSC site and prepare based on that. There are a lot of reference books available for this purpose. You can buy general studies related books too from the market. But it also important that you read the newspaper daily and be well updated in the current affairs section.

If you have cleared the preliminary exam of IPS then you are called for main exam of the IPS. Here you can select your choice or your branch related subjects.
The best subjects for the electronics and communication student is to related to science. You may select this subject as the optional subject as per your choice of interest.
