is physiotherapy equal to B.sc...please tell me if its equal to the same

The Physiotherapy Department of Bangladesh Health Professions Institute (BHPI) was established in 1992. The aim of the department is to produce highly skilled physiotherapy professional who will provide services in health care provision and Rehabilitation country wide. At present, the department is offering 4 different programs on Physiotherapy including:


I. Master of Science in Physiotherapy (M.Sc PT)

2. Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy (BSc PT)

3. Diploma in Physiotherapy

4. Physiotherapy Assistant (PTA) program.


Master of Science in Physiotherapy program (M.Sc PT):

Affiliated Body: Faculty of Biological Science, University of Dhaka

Duration of the program: The course extends for two academic years.

Date of Commencement: January of each year

Course Structure: The M.Sc PT shall consist of 3 (three) parts:

PART-I January-June (6 months)

PART-II July-December (6 months)

Bachelor of Physiotherapy program: Bachelor of Science with Honors in Physiotherapy program was started at BHPI in 1998 with 20 students under faculty of Medicine, University of Dhaka. The name of the course has been changed to Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Physiotherapy since 2006. Then, the number of seat was increased to 30 simultaneously. Emphasizing the demand of the program, the present number of seat has been increased to 40 from 2010-2011 sessions. The aim of the program is to facilitate critical thinking, academic vigour and self-evaluation in the graduate to develop enterprise and transferable skills.

The duration of the course is 5years (Four professional years and 1 year compulsory internship). After passing the fourth professional examination, a candidate will have to undergo internship for a period of twelve months.

Diploma of Physiotherapy program: The Diploma of Physiotherapy Course is affiliated by the State Medical Faculty of Bangladesh. The Duration of the Course is 3 years. The aim of the program is to prepare diploma physiotherapist with proper knowledge, skill and attitude to perform assigned responsibilities of health institutes like hospital, rehabilitation centers health complexes and clinics under the supervision of BSc Physiotherapist.

Physiotherapy Assistant program: The course consists of two years of teaching. A teaching year has 2 semesters. The first semester consists largely of theoretical study and the second year consists of clinical practice at CRP. The aim of the program is to produce skilled physiotherapy assistant who are able to perform certain therapeutic procedures under the direction of a BSc physiotherapists.

Entry Criteria:

The candidate must have 4(four) years Bachelor Degree in Physiotherapy or equivalent Physiotherapy degree from the Public University or recognised by the concerned Government authority.

The candidate must have completed one year internship training/working experience in any recognised hospital approved by the concerned Authority

Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy (BSc PT) The applicant must have passed the S.S.C. and H.S.C or the examination of equal status in science group with biology, Physics and chemistry without any grace mark or improvement and have to secure the grade point 7 (seven). The candidate must have minimum grade point 3 (three) separately. 40
Diploma in Physiotherapy The applicant must have passed the S.S.C. or the examination of equal status in science group with biology, Physics and chemistry. The candidate must have to obtain minimum grade point 2.5 50
Physiotherapy Assistant (PTA) The applicant must have passed the S.S.C. with minimum GPA 2 in the science group. 20

ADMISSION AND ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES: The admission and academic activities usually starts from January in each year.

ENTRANCE EXAMINATION AND INTERVIEW: Students have to appear in admission test which is usually held on December in each year. After qualifying the admission test a candidate will have to undergo medical and physical examination by medical board. Then, the medical board will give medical certificate on which his/her admission shall be decided. Students, on the basis of merit in admission test and medical certificate will be selected as successful candidate. Thus he/ she will be nominated for admission.

FACILITIES:

Physiotherapy department of Bangladesh Health Professions Institute (BHPI) has well furnished classrooms, language laboratory, anatomy & physiology meusiam, computer training unit with internet access, practical room and a library complex. The library complex contains a large number of physiotherapy related books, journals and periodicals required for the training courses and relevant for the research activities.

Accommodation: Availability of student accommodation is limited. Priority is given to female students.

Merit Stipend: Merit stipend are given for all programs.

Co-curricular activities: Students from physiotherapy department of BHPI can participate in sports club, cultural and recreation club, morale club, debate club.

English Language Course: New students participate in an eight week intensive English course. Thereafter, English, at each level of study, is a compulsory subject at BHPI.

Computer Training Facilities: The computer suite has recently been re-located and updated. This facility enables students to become familiar with computer use and helps in the preparation of their course work.

Food: There is a cafeteria for students and staff that provides breakfast, lunch and dinner at reasonable prices.

Faculty members:

All the students of those programs are taught by both local and foreign teachers from many specialties and backgrounds. There are 10 permanent physiotherapy faculties who are expert in this aspect and provide teaching for the students. Among them, 4 are assistant professors and 6 are lecturers and others specialist medical science teachers for medical science subjects.

Medium of Instruction:

The language is used to teach the student is in English. Assignment, course work, examination (both written, oral/practical) are also conducted in English. Overall recommended Text Books are available in English at BHPI library.

Research Project:

Students have to complete a Research work at 4th Professional Year. Before starting work, students have to take approval from the local review committee through formal presentation and submission of detail proposal as per the given format by the department. Students are encouraged to conduct research related to professional development issues. These researches are evaluated by both internal and external body. Students also have to present their research through power point presentation and they also need to pass through formal defense board.



Professional Examination:

After completion of each academic year, students have to appear in the professional examination, conducted by the University of Dhaka. Professional examinations are held bi-annually in the month of February and August.

Clinical Placement:

1050 hours (7) clinical practices are completed by the students in different academic year in order fulfillment the requirement of the program. Among those, 4 clinical placements are done within CRP. External clinical placement sites are included:

1) National Institute of Orthopedic & Traumatology

2) National Institute of Disease of Chest & Hospital

3) National Institute of Cardiovascular diseases & Hospital

4) Dhaka Medical College and Hospital

5) Dhaka Shishu Hospital

6) Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University

The overall objective of clinical placement is to enable the students independent in Assessment, clinical diagnosis and implement Physiotherapy intervention efficiently and effectively.

No , physiotherapy is not equal to BSc. It is way better than BSc course. You can choose it over BSc , it was wider career scopes and it is beneficial for you and even the society.
