Dear,

COMPUTER is acronym for Commonly Operated Machine Purposley Used for Training Education and Research.

There are following functional units in Computer:

Input unit:
This unit consists of the devices through which you enter data in your computer. These devices are: Keyboard, Keyboard, joystick, mouse, input pen, touch screen, trackball, scanner, bar code readers, microphone, floppy disks, magnetic tapes, compact disks.

Memory Unit – Primary Storage
Primary Storage or Main Memory :
These are semi conductor memories which are volatile. It stores all the operations, programmes, result of operations during execution of any instruction. It is also known as RAM i.e. Random Access Memory. It stores program during its execution. It has following storage space:
Input Storage Area –It accepts and stores the input data to be processed.
Working Storage Space – holds the data being processed as well the intermediary results of such processes.
Output Storage Area – maintains the final outputs or processed results.
Program Storage Area –It stores the entire program that is being executed.

Memory Unit – Secondary Storage
It stores data which cannot be stored in main memory. It consists of: magnetic disk, floppy, CD, DVD etc.

Proessing unit
It is also called the Central Processing Unit (CPU) or Central Processor. It is considered to be brain of the computer. It is composed of ALU(arithematic and logical unit) and CU(control unit). In ALU all arithmetic and logic operations and manipulation take place.CU controls the entire activity of the CPU.

Output unit
It consists of devices that gives or displays out the result such as: Monitor, Speaker etc.

Hope this will help.

Dear Friend

In order to carry out the operations computer allocates the task between its various functional units. The computer system is divided into three separate units for its operation. These are

>> arithmetic logical unit

>> control unit

>> central processing unit.

all the best
Do you have any question? or have anything to say?
