Hi, can you tell me about the exam pattern of GATE examination? Which type of question are asked? Is it MCQ based or written? If MCQ then what is the marks each correct answers get and any deduction for each incorrect answers?

Exam pattern of GATE examination:-

Exam duration - 3 hours (180 minutes)

Number of questions 65

Total marks - 100

Questions type - There will be 2 questions types
1- Multiple choice question( MCQ)
2- Numerical answer type questions

Language of question paper - English

Mode of education - online

Marking scheme:
Multiple choice questions( MCQ) - + 1 and 2 marks for the correct answer, 1/3 mark will be deducted for one mark questions and 2/3 mark will be deducted for two marks questions numeric answer type( NAT) - + 1 and 2 marks for the correct answer

No negative marking.

For GATE 2020 exam, following exam pattern will be followed.

There will be following different types of questions.

• MCQs (1 or 2 marks for correct answer). Negative marking will be there 1/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer in 1 mark-MCQ. Likewise, 2/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer in 2 mark-MCQ.
• Numerical Answer Type (NAT) Questions. This carries 1 or 2 marks each in all the papers and sections. No negative marking in these questions.

There will be in total 65 questions. Total marks will be 100. Among these questions, there will be 10 questions carrying a total of 15 marks based on General Aptitude (GA)
