Yes, The basic eligibility criteria for BTech is class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. However, there are additional criteria in every entrance exam and institute. Some of the institutes also conduct admission to their courses on merit basis i.e. based on marks scored by candidates in their class 12 board exams.

Here are a few reasons why 12th-grade fundamentals are important for studying BTech:

1. Prerequisite Knowledge: Many BTech programs build upon the concepts and topics taught in 12th-grade science and mathematics. Subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics are foundational for engineering disciplines like Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, etc. Having a good grasp of these subjects will make it easier to understand advanced topics and engage in higher-level coursework.

2. Core Engineering Concepts: Engineering programs often involve courses that rely on the fundamentals of 12th-grade subjects. For example, a strong understanding of calculus, trigonometry, and algebra is essential for various engineering disciplines. Similarly, knowledge of physics concepts such as mechanics, electromagnetism, and thermodynamics is crucial for understanding engineering principles and applications.

3. Problem-Solving Skills: 12th-grade education, especially in science and mathematics, helps develop problem-solving skills that are valuable in engineering. Engineering programs involve solving complex problems and applying scientific principles to real-world scenarios. The analytical and critical thinking skills developed in 12th grade are essential for approaching engineering problem-solving tasks effectively.

While it is important to have a solid foundation, it's also worth noting that BTech programs typically cover the necessary subjects in-depth, providing a comprehensive understanding of engineering principles and applications. Professors and instructors often revisit fundamental concepts at the beginning of the BTech program to ensure that students are on the same page.

If you feel that your 12th-grade fundamentals are weak in certain subjects, it can be beneficial to review those topics independently or consider taking remedial courses or tutorials to strengthen your understanding before starting your BTech studies.
