The exam of Habitat Engineering is of three hours and within that time students have to answer five questions in all. There are smaller sub questions within the questions, which can fetch 20 marks. There is a choice between question 1 and question 2, a choice between question 3 and question 4 and so on. The key topics for the exam are climate, elements of climate, psychometric chart, bioclimatic chart, human confort, ventilation, solar control, thermo physical factors, insulation, disaster management, National Housing Policy, Slum Improvement Schemes, State Housing Boards, National Hosuing Bank, different types of legislations etc. Questions can be short answer types, long answer types or short notes. Short notes are frequently asked, so it is always best to study the whole subject in depth. Diagrams can also be asked, so one should prepare accordingly. One advice for the students who will be writing this paper is that they should first of all grasp all the basic concepts and then go for previous year’s papers to strengthen their grip over the subject.
