It includes screwed fastenings like thread forms, bolt and nut either hexagonal or square headed, Lewis foundation bolt, cotter, spigot, socket knuckle joints, Couplings including pin type, flange, and muff; parallel, tapered, saddle, feather, pin keys. Bearings like bushed, plummer, thrust are also included. Assembling the parts of the machine like piston, connecting rods, valves for safety purpose, stuffing box, connecting rod etc., are also important.

Paper Pattern: It consists of 6 questions. Out of first two questions one must be answered and it carries 20 marks. From 3 and 4 questions one must be answered and it carries 30 marks. From the last two, one must be answered and it carries 50 marks.

Time and Maximum marks: Duration of exam is 4 hours and maximum marks are 100.

Key Points:Start of the paper mainly concentrates on machine parts and their organization. In the second group, couplings or other related drawings may be asked for. The last section mainly revolves around the valves.
